Incense pendants and hangings

Scented objects you hang rather than burn: pressed tablets, car and bag charms, and bracelet-and-sachet sets, all made from the same natural dough as incense bead bracelets.

What belongs in this group

Pendants and hangings are incense you carry or hang instead of burn. They use the same ingredients as a bead bracelet - sandalwood powder, a nanmu bark binder, a little honey - but the dough is pressed into a mold or strung as a few beads with a knot and tassel. The shape does most of the selling: a flat carved tablet reads as a small gift, a tasselled strand reads as a car or bag accessory, and a bracelet with a cloth sachet reads as a boxed set. Ouvare coordinates all three through partner workshops in the Fujian and Guangdong incense clusters, so one brief can cover several formats.

The three formats

Each format answers a different buying question. The comparison below is where most programs start.

Cords, tassels and findings

The cord is the part a customer touches first, so it is specified as carefully as the incense. Common options are waxed cotton, braided polyester, silk-feel cord and elastic for bracelets. Tassels come in cotton, rayon-like threads or silk-feel threads in a color palette matched to your brand. Metal parts such as bead caps, clasps or clips should be declared by material - brass, copper plating or 925 silver - and checked against the rules of the target market for nickel release and jewelry heavy metals. Names such as REACH and CPSIA can be raised with your broker; test values are agreed per program, not assumed. The silver set page covers hole sizes for metal spacers.

Branding without changing the scent

Because the scent is carried by the dough and not by added fragrance oils, branding sits on the surface and the packaging. Tablets accept a relief pattern from the mold and a logo cut into the face (intaglio). Hanging beads take brand-colored tassels and printed hang tags. Sets take custom fabric, embroidery and a printed or lacquer-style box. A typical private-label brief names the format, size, cord and tassel colors, logo artwork and box, and the desk returns a sample sheet. More on OEM and private label and packaging and gift boxes.

Who buys and where it sells

  • Gift and souvenir shops. Tablets and sets in small, flat packs that ship lightly.
  • Jewelry and lifestyle brands. Pendants on their own cord, or charms added to an existing bag or bracelet range.
  • Temple and retreat shops. Plain, unscented-by-synthetics tablets and strands, neutral packaging.
  • Online sellers. Light parcels, repeatable colors, simple cards that photograph well.
  • Corporate gifting. Seasonal sets with engraved tablets and a branded sleeve.

How to choose a first format

If you are testing a new market, start with the format that needs the least tooling. Hanging beads and stock tablets need no mold and can be sampled in one to two weeks. If you already sell bracelets, a sachet set is the easiest add-on because the bracelet is unchanged and only the pouch and box are new. If gifting is the goal, engraved tablets give the strongest sense of a made-for-you object. Many buyers begin with one stock design per format, read the sell-through for a season, and then commission a branded mold for the one that moves. The desk can hold the retained sample of each design so repeat orders match.

Heat, light and storage

Pendants live in harder conditions than bracelets: a car dashboard, a sunny window, a handbag. Natural blends without synthetic oils tolerate this better than coated or oil-loaded products, but they still dry out and lose strength in direct sun. Each line page gives handling notes you can print on the card. For shipping, goods go in foil pouches with desiccant, which keeps the scent sealed until the customer opens the pack.

Ordering notes

Stock pieces typically start from 50-200 pieces per design, branded pieces from about 300-1,000 per design, and custom engraving or mold work from about 500 pieces with sample rounds. Stock samples take 5-10 working days; molded or engraved samples take longer because of tooling and drying. These are typical reference ranges, confirmed in writing for each program. Sizes, formats and target quantities can be sent through the quote form, and the logistics page explains parcel and sea options.

Questions buyers ask

Are pendants and hangings meant to be burned?

No. They are worn or hung. Scent comes slowly from the natural dough, helped by warmth and handling. For burning, see the incense stick and pill gift box line under incense goods and tools.

Can one order mix tablets, charms and sets?

Yes. The partner workshops share the same base dough, so mixed programs are normal. Minimums apply per design, so mixing many designs raises the total quantity needed.

Do the pendants use synthetic fragrance oils?

The standard specification uses natural woods, nanmu binder and honey, with no synthetic oils and no industrial glue, confirmed in writing per order. See compliance for the declaration.

Can I supply my own cords and tassels?

Yes, as long as samples arrive before the first run so length, thickness and hole size can be checked. Many programs choose from the workshop's color range to save time.

How are pendants shipped?

Flat in foil pouches or boxed sets inside cartons, with desiccant. Samples and small lots usually travel by express in 3-7 days; larger lots go by air or sea.

Send the lines you need, the bead size, the quantity per design and your market. The desk replies in writing with sample options, the formula sheet and the reference MOQ.
